Walking to the cinema with the stars – Zurich Film Festival 2024

Beatrice Lessi

The best to see the stars

There is no other film festival in the world with the special combination Switzerland can offer. Being so safe, small, punctual and with everything at a short distance, the Zurich Film Festival really is the best place to see Oscar winners and top industry makers walking with you to the cinema. No need to queue up or being pushy in the middle of other fans: in Zurich, everything is organised, you’ll find your space, and the actors will pass near you and (almost always, I can say after 8 years of attendance) give you enough time for a word, a selfie or an autograph. Not many people are interested in the movies only…we also want to see the stars!

Then of course my other favorite parts is meeting some Swiss personalities – I appreciate how supportive they are of the festival, and how they work it or sponsor it, or regularly visit and advertise it.

Guests 2024

This year I attended the Zurich Film Festival 2024  to see two actors I particularly like: Jude Law and Richard Gere.

My favourite film was Wisdom of Happiness, produced by Richard Gere.

The Dalai Lama speaks directly to the audience and explains, why the 21st century should become the century of compassion. The spiritual teacher manages to captivate us and touch our hearts. She imagery is fabulous, and there is also some unpublished material from archives of the Tibetan government.

The Masters

My biggest tip  to really see the stars up and close, and be able to ask them questions, is checking out the Masters.

This is the name of an event you can find on the official Zurich Film Festival website, a Q&A on a cinema, during the day. This means there is the perfect light for a selfie, the crowd isn’t too big, waiting time is very limited, and you can learn a lot about the movie you are going to see.

The Swiss crew

This year, together with the movie actors, I also photographed Jennifer Bosshard, Christa Rigozzi, Christian Jungen, Nadia Schildknecht, Daniela Ryf and her partner Jennifer Estes, the Mayor of Zurich, Corinne Maud, and Federal Council member Elisabeth Baume-Schneider.
