Taking-Off with IWC Schaffausen

Around The World With “The Silver Spitfire – The Longest Flight” Expedition

Perhaps the most famous combat aircraft in history, The Silver Spitfire, seen live, is a sexy beauty. Designed in the 1930s, its retro look remains a classic.

Shiny and perfectly restored, the airplane is on display at the SIHH (Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie) in Geneva, in occasion of the launch of the new IWC Pilot Watches Collection.

But the idea isn’t just to be inspired by its retro design. There  is one challenge the aircraft has never quite managed yet: a complete circumnavigation of the globe. This Summer, Steve Boultbee Brooks and Matt Jones will embark on the first round-the-world flight. They will have more than 150 stops in 30 countries during their “Silver Spitfire – The Longest Flight” expedition with IWC Schaffausen as its main sponsor.

Top Gun at the SIHH

We were invited at the IWC booth in Geneva for a photo shooting with the new watch collection of the IWC Pilot watches Spitfire, Top Gun line and Le Petit Prince special editions that were presented in occasion of the watch fair.

Kevin Lütolf, Jorge S.B.Guerreiro  of JSBG, Geri and I had the chance to try all new watches and model them in different looks. Security was high but the live music, refreshments and beautiful people made the atmosphere festive. Body guards standing in different key corners of the fair reminded us  of how exclusive the event was.

My Top Three

After touching and trying all of them for a while and feeling like a kid in the candy shop, I had no doubt about my three favourites:

  1. The beige Top Gun Pilot’s watch chronograph, edition “Mojave Desert” (Ref. IW389103). This is the first watch with a case made from sand-colored ceramic and is limited to 500 pieces. And it matched my outfit perfectly!
  2.  The bronze Pilot’s watch Automatic “Spitfire” (Ref. IW326802)
  3. For an evening look, the Portofino Automatic 37 (Ref.IW458116)

Geri wore the Spitfire and the Automatic Moonphase 37 (Ref.459011).

All sunglasses are by Burrioptik.
