1.Switzerland has about 1500 lakes.

2.Switzerland holds 6% of Europe’s fresh water reserve, even though its land mass is only 0.4% of it.

3.40%  of water originates from the melting of snow, and only 2% from the melting of glaciers.

4.The fresh water is so clean that you can drink out of rivers and lakes, at least from most of them.

5. Swiss mountains cover 60% of Switzerland’s land area. If the country’s surface were flattened out, Switzerland would be 12.5% larger.

6. The highest railway station in Europe is in Switzerland, on top of the Jungfraujoch, at 3.454 meters.

7. The world’s longest railway tunnel is in Switzerland: the Gotthard Base Tunnel 57.1 km long.

8. The world’s longest staircase is in the Bernese Alps: 11.674 steps leading to Mount Niesen.

9.  Switzerland has nearly 5.000 cable cars, funiculars and ski lifts, and over 60.000 km of signposted hiking trails.

10. The Swiss are so clean, they even wash their tunnels! A special machine with huge brushes cleans the walls and ceiling of tunnels.
