Little Gem in South Africa

Beatrice Lessi

A Random Found

Last week I was in South Africa on holiday. On our way from Cape Town to the Madiqwe Game Reserve, where we booked a Safari, we decided to make a stop over. We looked at the map and found a place somewhere halfway. Nearest hotel in the area? Woodridge Palms Boutique Hotel. We booked two rooms, thinking it would be a boring place in the middle of nowhere.

Sweet Surprise

Since we drove at night on a completely dark, deserted, gravelled road, I admit that I was really scared. I thought the map could be old or not updated, because I saw nothing for a long time and only perceived the presence of wild animals. I was praying God that the Hotel really existed when we finally saw some gates and a cheerful employee came to us with a big smile – I tell you, this place, for Swiss standards, was really in the middle of nothing!

Family Fun

The owner of the property, Stephan Rautenbach, gave us a lovely dinner, showed us some of his pets  (he has a tiger and a lion and plays with them like we, normal humans, play with cats) and told us a lot of funny stories of animals. He is the best host and gives time and attention to every guest.

If you have a family or simply love animals, do consider to spend some days here. Good value for the money, beautiful spacious rooms, an incredibly friendly atmosphere and a lot of animals to play with will make your holiday memorable. Thank you Stephan for having us and giving us such a good time!
