When my best (Swiss) friend approached his very special round birthday, he looked for a top destination abroad to invite his friends and throw a party. His girlfriend works in a travel agency and the two of them travel extensively. He chose to party with the lions! Ok, maybe not exactly. But the Melozhori Game Reserve offered the perfect setting for luxury celebrations and safari:  South Africa is ideal for anybody who loves stunning views, gourmet food, top wines, wild nature and a healthy environment.

Nothing against Ibiza, but its stereotypical party life in a mass of people, overpaying and getting stoned…is something of the past. How about enjoying nature, quality and healthy holidays?

The New Luxury

Since South Africa offers so many attractions at a reasonable price, most people in our group prolonged their holidays.  Some played golf, some did the Cape Argus bicycle race, some went hiking, others shopping and wine tasting. We did it all. The new luxury is having time to experience what is good for your body and for your soul.

Here my tips for a  trip around Cape Town.

• Stellenbosch for wine tasting, sleek design, top restaurants filled with art. For the wow effect, stay or dine at Delaire Graf
• Camps Bay for everything you see in the internet about trendy SA. You want to impress the boys? The best meat is in Hussar Grill
• V&A Waterfront, the popular area where the city meets the sea. The best architecture worth a visit and a fancy lift ride is at the Zeitz MOCAA Museum
• Somerset West for the best restaurant in South Africa: The Restaurant at Waterkloof
• Melozhori for safari in a luxury environment, and with very friendly staff
• Adults Only:  I only mean a in the restaurant – because is not children friendly! Watch the giants trees, see how slaves used to live and enjoy (once more) top food at Camphors at Vergelegen .
• Constantia for a beautiful residential area (but no views) and another absolute top gourmet destination, La Colombe
• Bike Paradise: South Africa is famous for its bike races. Entries for the world’s biggest timed sportif fill up almost six months before the event, through an online process that sees 30’000 tickets snapped up in just a few hours. This is the Cape Argus. The most televised mountain bike race, the Absa Cape Epic, is a gruesome eight days stage race which is the highlight of any professional rider. The route changes every year, leading aspiring amateur and professional mountain bikers from around the world through roughly 700 kilometres of unspoilt scenery and 15 000 m of accumulated climbing.
